Eat, Weed, Read

What do you do after work?

I find this to be a perpetual question that changes over the years, and over seasons. I figure the saying “The Witching Hours” was invented for the hours between 4 – 6, when children melt down, everyone’s blood sugar is low, and many of us are awkwardly transitioning from our various days of work into the long-awaited evening hours.

Generally, I like walking out the witching hours, or running. Being in motion tends to work well to unwind. In days of yore, I worked right through to almost bed time, but those days are, thankfully, over.

For Spring, 2012, at Mercerwood, the routine is taking a new form.

Like today, for instance. It was almost 80 degrees at 5:30pm.

I came home and did a bit of weeding, and dead-headed the hydrangeas. Then Steve and I ate hamburgers outdoors. And then we hit the loungers in our outdoor patio area and read.

Then we took a little walk down to the Mercerwood Shore Club beach, where we are new members.

Here’s what’s happening outdoors these days.

Lawn with a view and cherry-red Adirondak chairs.

About mercerwoodhome

"As the gods are my witness I will never do a home improvement project." Well now I am. Steve and I are. This is the story of how it all unfolds. Despite all the comments of "it's a real relationship tester," I think it could be surprisingly fun. With just a few tantrums and whatnots to keep things lively. Let's see, shall we?

I love your posts! Your wit and humor (or are they the same?) come shining through in your writing—such fun to read. It’s exciting to watch the progress on your home—and what’s better than cherry-red Adirondak chairs?
